Turgor?time controls grass leaf elongation rate and duration under drought stress

The process of leaf elongation in grasses is characterized by the creation and transformation distinct cell zones. prevailing turgor pressure within these cells one key drivers for rate at which divide, expand differentiate, processes that are heavily impacted drought stress. In this article, a turgor-driven growth model grass presented, combines mechanistic from basis with ontogeny leaf. Drought-induced reductions result simultaneous inhibition both expansion differentiation, lowering but increasing duration due to slower transitioning dividing elongating zone mature cells. Leaf is, therefore, governed magnitude of, time spent under, growth-enabling pressure, metric we introduce as turgor-time. Turgor-time able normalize patterns terms varying water availability, similar how thermal used do so under temperatures. Moreover, additional inclusion temperature dependencies our pioneers novel concept enabling general expression regardless availability or temperature.
